Hey there, it's Vicki.
I want to dive deep into the power of choice in this episode. It
wasn't initially on my ta-da list, but sometimes life takes us on
unexpected detours.
As I ran a quick errand this morning, I couldn't help but notice
the gray skies outside (you can catch this on YouTube if you want
to see my truth). New England had been blessing us with perfect
weather lately, but today was a bit dull.
I had plans to mow the lawn, but instead, I get to spend this time
with you, and that's a choice I'm happy to make.
Today, I'll explore the concept of choice, especially when life
throws us curveballs like unexpected job losses or health
issues.
We may not choose the circumstances, but we can always choose
our perspective.
I share my personal experience of choosing how to navigate my
late husband's illness and passing, opting for a path of grace and
empowerment rather than victimhood. Phew, that was hard.
I delve into the power of perspective, emphasizing that we're in
charge of how we see the world. It took me some time to understand
this fully, especially coming from a background of people-pleasing
and emotional suppression. But once I grasped the concept of
choice, I realized it was hard to return to old patterns, and I
didn't want to anyway.
Choosing how we respond to situations, rather than being passive
victims, reduces suffering and allows us to see life through the
lens of empowerment. It's not about ignoring emotions but
acknowledging them and deciding how long we allow them to affect
us.
I also touch on the importance of boundaries, explaining how
activating choice in our lives can help us set and maintain healthy
boundaries. This enhances authenticity and deepens our connection
with the natural flow of life.
Balancing external expectations is another challenge when we
embrace a choice-driven life. We can't please everyone, and that's
okay. I share personal experiences of resisting external
expectations and explain how making conscious choices allows us to
stay true to ourselves. Again, it's hard sometimes.
I encourage starting small when embracing choices in our lives.
It's like muscle strengthening; you begin with manageable weights
because those three-pounders can get heavy!
Whether it's choosing a healthier lunch or embracing water as a
daily habit, these micro-movements matter and pave the way for more
significant changes.
Remember, choices don't have to be overwhelming; they can be
exciting and liberating. We can always adjust and refine our
choices as we go along.
So, if you've been pondering some changes or feeling overwhelmed by
choices, this episode is for you.
Let's celebrate the power of choice together.
